Memorial Weekend

This weekend Aunt Sharon, Shawn and I went on a little road trip to Portland, Mt. St. Helens, Morton, and Elbe. We visited the Memorial Cemetery where my grandpa is buried, ate at the "Twilight" Carver Cafe, camped in a yurt at the Seaquest State Park, got our picture taken with Bigfoot at Mt. St. Helens, visited the Morton Veteran`s Memorial Wall, rode the Mt. Rainier Scenic Railroad Train, and stayed at the Hobo Inn. We really had lots of fun and saw some new & interesting things.

We are thankful to God for all of our freedoms that we have in the U.S.A...the freedom to travel, the freedom to spend time with our family, and the freedom to worship Him. We are also thankful to all the men and women who have fought & continue to fight for our freedom. God Bless America!!

Westport Trip

This weekend we headed for Westport for Papa`s annual fishing trip. He decided to go halibut fishing this year because he had never been fishing for them before. The halibut season is very short and this year it only last for about two weeks. Papa fished with the Deep Sea Charters again and he was on Captain Ken`s boat, the Tequila Too. His fishing trip was the last day of the halibut season. We stayed at the beautiful Chateau Westport Hotel. Nana & I relaxed in the pool & hot tub while Papa fished. The hotel is also only a couple blocks away from the beach and we had a nice ocean view from our room. It was truly a relaxing & glorious trip to Westport. I LOVE THE OCEAN!!

On Saturday, we checked into our hotel then headed to the beach to see if we could see any surfers. This weekend was also the 12th annual Westport Clean Water Classic surf contest. We headed over to the Twin Harbors State Park first but it was raining and we didn`t see any surfers. We also went into town so Papa could do his check-in at Deep Sea Charters for his fishing trip on Sunday.

After going to town, we brought back some dinner then went swimming in the pool and relaxed in the hot tub. The hotel`s pool and hot tub is indoors so we could enjoy it even though it was raining outside. The pool is also open late for adults only (9pm to 11pm).

The hotel also has books, games and puzzles that you can borrow. Nana & Papa borrowed a couple puzzles to work on.

On Sunday, Papa & Nana got up at 3:30am to get ready for his fishing trip. He had to be on his boat by 4:30am. Thank goodness the hotel was only a few minutes away from the docks so Papa & Nana did not have to drive to far that early in the morning. I chose to sleep in. After Nana dropped Papa off, she came back and slept longer too. In the morning while Nana was still sleeping, I enjoyed reading in the fireplace room, eating breakfast at the hotel`s 2nd floor kitchen (complimentary breakfast), and taking a walk to the beach. The hotel also has free wifi and a computer in the lobby but I chose to read instead.

The hotel also has a rose garden, children`s playground, horse shoe games, volleyball and basketball courts. On my walk, I enjoyed seeing all the pretty flowers, seeing a duck in the creek (he actually let me get really close to snap a picture), watching the surfers heading to the beach, collecting some rocks and shells, & listening to the waves crash into shore.

In the afternoon, Nana and I went to the Westhaven State (Day) Park to check out the surf contest then we went into town and visited some of the shops & marina while we waited for Papa to get back in from fishing. The town had a new lookout tower. We saw a racoon and some stray cats at the marina. At the ice cream shop, Nana tried on a biker`s head scarf and got her picture taken by a pink motorcycle. We also watched the other boats come in and we got a picture of the largest halibut catch of the day (52 Ibs.) Papa`s boat came in around 6pm and he had caught a 15 pound halibut and some yellow tail rockfish.

Papa was really tired after a day of fishing so he rested in the hotel room while Nana and I went back to the pool and hot tub. Then we had lots of laundry to clean (the hotel has a washer and dryer for the guests to use) so after swimming, I started the wash. While the clothes were in the washer, I went to the lobby for dessert. The hotel also sales ice cream in the lobby so every night for dessert, I would pick up a Haagen Dazs ice cream treat...YUM YUM! I LOVE THIS HOTEL!!

The sunsets from our room were always so beautiful.

On Monday, I got up early and read in the lobby again then had breakfast with Papa & Nana at the hotel kitchen. We ate yummy belgium waffles with hot syrup (the hotel had sugar free syrup for Nana & Papa). The day was very sunny and we had a nice drive home. We stopped by the Anderberg house and showed Papa`s halibut to the girls. For dinner, we got Chinese takeout from Saigon Gardens.

I had my picture taken by the surfer outside our hotel after we turned in our keys.

God has blessed us again with another great road trip to the ocean. We are thankful for the fish in the sea and the beauty of His waters.
