On March 29th, we headed east on I-90. We left after I got off work. It was a great evening for travel and we enjoyed watching the beautiful sunset from our rear view mirror. We stopped for the night in Moses Lake, WA.
Papa and I are going to try to go walking everyday while we are on vacation so that we continue to stay focused on being healthy. On March 30th, we woke up early and took a walk around our motel`s neighborhood. We met this very cute three-legged cat.
We got an early start today and traveled a long ways through Washington, Idaho, and most of Montana. I enjoyed seeing all the snow along side the road and Nana stopped so that I could play in it for a minute. We stopped for the night in Billings, Montana.
Happy Easter!! On March 31st, Papa and I went walking in the morning and we saw an adorable cotton tail rabbit. He did not seem to be too afraid of us and I was able to get very close to him and snap this photo. This was a great Easter surprise. The Lord has blessed us with His wonderful creation and His love for us. We need to try to thank Him everyday for all that He has done for us.
Today we traveled to South Dakota and stayed the night in the town of Wall. For miles before arriving to the town, there are billboards advertising Wall Drug and their free ice water, 5 cent coffee, & yummy donuts.
On April 1st, Papa and I took a walk to Wall Drug before we got back on the road again. I bought one of those yummy donuts (yep...and I have no regrets...it was delicious!!). Papa got his picture taken with a buffalo (April Fools...its not a real buffalo).
Today we did a lot of driving through South Dakota, Iowa, and Missouri. We did make a little stop in Sioux City, Iowa to visit the Sgt. Charles Floyd River Museum and Iowa Welcome Center. This was a very interesting museum plus its FREE!! We were welcomed at the front desk by a sweet old man who was full of tons of information about the Lewis & Clark Expedition and Sgt. Floyd (the one man that died of disease during the expedition). We got to explore the three levels of the 1932 tow boat that was loaded with lots of historical things to see (Native American artifacts, fur-trapping supplies, Lewis & Clark displays, old canoes, and Missouri river history). We stopped for the night at St. Joseph, Missouri and decided to go out for dinner at a Mexican restaurant. The place that we chose was recommended by the motel clerk. It was the weirdest Mexican food that we have ever eaten and they served us some stuff that looked like spaghetti.
Nana said that she got the best sleep that night (Yep...she really did sleep in the tub!).
On April 2nd, we got up early (around 4am) and traveled through Missouri to Arkansas.
We have arrived in Harrison, Arkansas! You know that you have made it to Arkansas when you see a bus that has been converted into a delivery truck. This truck was in our motel parking lot when we checked in around noon.
We spent the afternoon visiting Grandma & Uncle Jerry at our motel. Later Nana & Papa went to visit Uncle Eddie & Wava while I relaxed at the motel. Nana bought me some yummy hush puppies.
Today (April 3rd) Papa & I got up around 7am and went on a two hour walk. It is very cold here (about 30 degrees) so we went over to Walmart and walked inside for an hour. Then we walked another hour outside around the Walmart building and the nature trail beside the parking lot. We saw pretty trees (saragus, oak, & southern pine), a flower bush (March rose) and birds (robins, mocking bird, & sparrows).
In the afternoon, Nana & I went shopping with Sheryll while Papa spent the day with Uncle Eddie. We visited a couple nutrition stores, a second-hand store, and some grocery stores. The Hudson Grocery store celebrates Banana Day every Wednesday and they sell their bananas for 19 cents a pound. We bought 5 pounds there. We bought some chicken loaf at Walmart for Papa which he loves and can`t buy at home. Its fun to see other things that they sale at the grocery stores here like hush puppies, fried catfish, purple asparagus plants, Arkansas hog sauce (they put on their hot dogs), and Crooked Creek sorghum. So far we are having a fun vacation and a good time visiting with family. Nana & I are looking forward to going on a trolley ride tomorrow.
So much fun! We enjoyed the pictures. :)
ReplyDeleteLooks like a great adventure, as does all your travels! Rob did work in Wall, SD, he talked about Wall Drug! Ended up with their bumper sticker on his trailer. :-)
